5. Halloween Can Turn You Into A Hero (Halloween H20: 1998)
Yes, another film in the
Halloween franchise, but would you have it any other way? This sequel was a fun, slick, bold continuation of the Michael Myers saga where so many of the other sequels failed. Taking on the successful elements of
Scream it was the postmodern, clever, shocking Halloween slasher for the 1990s. But while being fun, it also brought up to insane traits in characters we've seen in horror films before. It made a heroic character loose all sense of fear and go after the killer itself. It was a great twist. Laurie Strode finally snaps and goes after her murderous brother with an axe. In a way, it kind of made the film for me. But it does reinforce that Halloween horror stereotype; that people can become heroes when they're really pushed to their limits. And it's not just Laurie. Her boyfriend Will decides to hunt the killer down with a gun...seems like a sensible thing to do, except for the fact that he accidentally shoots poor security guard Ronny and ends up on the sharp end of Michael Myer's knife. Of course, you have to ask yourself. If a terrifying killer is hunting you down, do you really go try and take him down? No, not really. Find a really good hiding place or run like hell. Just don't go up stairs because that will never goes down well...
