8. Alien 3
I cannot emphasize how much I love this film, most notably the "Special Edition." Although I have already spoken about my fondness in a previous article I feel I need to elaborate on my position a little more on a number of things. Not only do I actually get offended when people bad mouth this movie but at the same time give "Prometheus" all the props in the world (even though this film is far superior), but I also find it quite disgusting that David Fincher has all but disowned this film. As this tells me that the man is nothing more than a pretentious prat. I have personally met small time directors (some of whom I have posed this question too) that would actually consider cutting off appendages for a chance at a big budget movie and would NEVER even remotely consider taking their name off anything they have created, regardless of the behind the scenes turmoil. If you are willing to sign your name on the dotted line and are willing to take a multi million dollar paycheck AND budget, then damn it you will appreciate everything and every opportunity given to you and you will put your name on it. Add to that the fact that not only was the pre-production already in full swing but its problems were universally known long before he jumped aboard, so if he didn't want any part of that hassle he should not have signed up in the first place. Or at least just bailed, like the directors who signed on to the project before him. Plus, on top of all of that, it was his first motion picture after doing nothing but Madonna videos. Who does he think he is? Oh right, David Fincher. And I am sorry but for those people who actually believe that "Prometheus" is better in any way are just fanboys of Ridley Scott as far as I am concerned. Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE fan but I ain't blind to the truth that he dropped the ball big time with that movie and this film is superior in every single way. From the acting, the plot, the storyline (the concept of a xenomorph impregnating a dog/ox was awesome), the tension and the fact that no one got crushed by a falling ship by not running sideways. Actually, that set piece alone in "Prometheus" took any credibility the story had away, not to mention getting lost although you have a state of the art tracking and GPS system. Not to mention that the characters NEVER LOSE CONTACT WITH THE ACTUAL SHIP. If there was one time in my life I agree 100% with an honest trailer, it's this time. Screen Junkies, I tip my hat to you sirs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBaKqOMGPWc With half a script, angry management and frustrated actors, David Fincher and Co created a masterpiece in my opinion. In some aspects even more superior than Aliens. For every spinoff there has been, only Alien 3 tried to recapture the atmosphere and tension that made the original so memorable. And for me at least, they succeeded in full.
