8 Movies That Don't Deserve The Hate

6. Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter

Now for a more recent offering. But before I go on I have to insist that I had never even heard of the graphic novel this was based on until AFTER I saw the movie, and at this point I have yet to read it. Therefore I will not be making any comparisons to the source material and any references to whatever the filmmakers may or may have not included in the final product. But I will go on to say to this to the people that hate on this film (apart from fans of the actual graphic novel). If you were going into the theatre under the impression that a movie with the title "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" was going to be anything like "Citizen Kane," then the only reason you could not at least enjoy this film as a one off is yourself. Lighten up will ya? Considering the title, I was not only taken completely by surprise by this little vampire feature, but I actually think it's an awfully clever film and one that I enjoyed immensely. In fact I have watched this film quite a few times now and have yet to be bored by it. Featuring Benjamin Walker as Honest Abe and with a pretty solid cast backing him up, it tells an "alternate" tale of what was really going on behind the scenes of American History. Although some of the effects leave a lot to be desired, it is an entertaining movie incorporating all the traits that makes a good action flick, with good performances all round and a bit of gore thrown in to boot.
I think this film suffered from over analysis by both the general audience and the critics which I believe may have stemmed from a public currently being immersed in the "realistic" approach filmmakers seem to be going for nowadays (Like Nolans Batman trilogy for example). But I can assure you if this was released in the 80's or 90's it would've been a massive hit. I mean come on people, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?" Did you really have to take this so seriously? What exactly are you expecting with a title like that? Did you same people go into a movie like "Naked Gun" thinking it was going to be a crime drama like "The Untouchables?" If you honestly had high expectations with a title like that then might I suggest that you take things way too seriously. Besides, considering the current crop of so called vampire films that have all but destroyed the iconic image these creatures of the night once represented, it was a much needed break from the norm and a nice throwback to days long gone.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
