8 Movies That Failed Because They Didn't Kill The Main Character

6. Pacific Rim

Pacific-Rim-Raleigh-Antrobus

RIP: Raleigh Becket Guillermo Del Toro's massive monster vs. robots blockbuster ends with our hero, Raleigh, taking his Jaeger through the rift in the Pacific Ocean in order to self-destruct the robot and destroy the portal between dimensions. He succeeds, and is able to make it back through the portal in time before the rift closes, presumably forever. Pacific Rim is a big, great popcorn flick that is ultimately not as memorable as it should be. It's fun to watch, but garnered a bit of a mixed reaction, and once the credits roll it's also quite easy to walk away from. The film lacks any emotional depth and is filled by stereotypical, one-note characters. If Raleigh had died at the end, sacrificing himself for the future of mankind, perhaps audiences would have left the theater feeling a bit more emotionally attached and affected by the movie.
