8 Movies That Had No Regard For The Environment

6. Waterworld (1995)

Apocalypse Now Kurtz the horror
Universal Pictures

Waterworld is a cult classic but the producers quickly realised they'd bitten off a little more than they could chew when they greenlit a movie about a world covered entirely with water. Production of the film ran into countless issues, with several members of the cast getting injured along the way.

Filming at sea is notoriously difficult and the production had to build an enormous set off the coast of Hawaii in order to give their movie the look it needed. The main set was made with over 1,000 tonnes of steel and countless other resources, and every day of filming involved all the cast and crew jetting back and forth between the set and dry land, constantly disturbing what was normally a very peaceful area.

The worst incident came when a hurricane struck the set, sinking a huge section of it and dumping all sorts of debris into the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The film did eventually make a small profit but hardly justified its extravagant production.
