8 Movies That Stupidly Scrapped Perfect Endings

4. Die Hard With A Vengeance

This is a bit of a weird one considering the Die Hard formula, but would have been an absolute, balls to the wall, insane way to finish up the third film in the franchise. Instead of having an action packed explosive scene that ends with John McClane's heroism saving the day once again, director John McTiernan wanted to do something a little different, shaking up the formula we've come to know and love with a more vindictive side to Die Hard's central hero.

In the ending that they decided to step away from, McClane is fingered for the pitfalls of the movie and gets fired from the NYPD for not being able to stop the burglary - though he still ends up being given an aspirin by baddie Simon which allows him to find him again. The pair then meet up in Germany, where McClane makes him play Russian roulette with a rocket launcher until forcing him at gunpoint to fire it through himself. It's pretty messed up by Die Hard standards, but absolutely subverts the expectation of an action movie and would have come as a real dark surprise in a series that has been largely a lot of the same since the first movie was released.

Alas, they didn't go with this ending as it wasn't quite showy enough. As if shooting someone with a tiny rocket launcher isn't showy.
