Jude Law’s Yon-Rogg was kept alive by Captain Marvel and sent back to the Kree with an ominous message. All signs point to him returning for a sequel.

It seemed easier to kill him, or at least leave him to die in the desert. Instead, Danvers took the slightly convoluted method of loading him into his ship, setting the co-ordinates and blasting him off.

There’s also the fact that he’s Jude Law. As a big name star, it’s not unreasonable that he would have received at least a two picture deal for the role of Yon-Rogg.

For a movie that nails feminism without ever really making it the focus, Danvers’ arc with Yon-Rogg is crucial. At the movie’s climax, he challenges her to a hand to hand fight; to a battle on his terms. This is a scenario well known to women, especially those in the professional world.

It’s not enough to be good, to even get by you have to be better than the best; beat them at their own game. Danvers blasts him with her superpowers and tells him she has absolutely nothing to prove to him. It’s a fantastic moment that we may see more of in the sequel.
