1. The "Humans Turn Monsters Into Toilet Seats" Theory Is Based On A Lie

In Partysaurus Rex - a so-so Toy Story short where Rex becomes king of the bath toys (none of these post-Andy adventures have really been up to much) - we see Bonnie's toilet seat has an oddly suspicious blue and purple spotted pattern. It's obviously a shout-out to Sully from the Monsters movies, which makes total sense - Pixar love teasing upcoming movies and Partysaurus Rex came out a year before Monsters University, so this is a nice bit of real-world foreshadowing. Or perhaps not...

Turns out that this isn't just a harmless easter egg, but a clue to the darkest joke in Pixar's history. Back in the original Monsters, Inc., at one point Randall and Sully discuss the human world, with the chameleon lizard claiming "I heard humans skin monsters and make toilet seats out of their fur", to which the latter replies "That's nonsense". So... that toilet seat cover was actually Sully. Oh my.

This theory was popularised thanks to a quick meme produced by Tumblr user RantingRandall, which aims to highlight how maniacal the Emmeryville titans are. And the internet snapped it up. Countless websites ran with the story unchecked. This was big - not only was it wickedly dark, but the movies themselves seem to confirm it.

Yeah, that scene doesn't exist.

Nowhere in either movie does any character talk about toilet seats, let alone Randall and Sully have that chat. Don't believe me? Well here's the video of the scene that discussion was taken from. Notice no talk of flaying loveable characters:

Taking two minutes to check the screenplays for Monsters, Inc. and Monsters University confirms this, finding no trace of this exchange. Two minutes. Don't believe everything you read, kids.
