Do you like eighties action movies starring the likes of Sly Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger? Then we'd recommend you go and get some eighties action movies on DVD rather than engaging in the recent trend of seeing action heroes of days gone by running about trying to recapture former glories. It feels like just about every action star aged sixties years and up has dabbled in the geriatric actioner. Bar Danny Glover; he knows he's too old for that... stuff. He said stuff. The central selling point of older people doing action only provides enough to propel a movie for ten minutes at best, not two franchises (The Expendables and RED) and multiple career resurgences. It'd be fine if we were given something worthy of the actor's previous best works (aside from Dolph Lundgren - his filmography is a depressing read), but the movies seem afraid to do anything too radical lest their star's lack of box office clout gets called into question. This sub-genre could work with the right level of homage, but as they are they just highlight that modern action cinema can be a real drag a lot of the time.
