8 Reasons It's Near Impossible To Make A Great Standalone Hulk Movie

5. What Is There For The Hulk To Do?

The-Incredible-Hulk-edward-norton-1757132-1275-540 One of the biggest no-nos in the realms of screenwriting is to write protagonist who is passive - that's to say, a character who simply reacts to situations that are thrown at him, instead of actively pursuing situations and plot points for himself. Because the Hulk isn't a caped crusader, or an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, he's never going to start a movie on a mission of any sort that sees him in Hulk mode - his "curse" pretty much ensures that. Which means that, from a story-perspective, the only storylines that can encompass a standalone Hulk movie are those in which he is pursued or attacked by villains and he has to fight back against them. That's fine, you say? Okay, well, maybe it is for a while, but how many times can we watch this scenario play out? Especially since we know that the Hulk is invulnerable and can't really lose the fight anyway. What becomes apparent in this situation, is that there is, ultimately, very limited territory to explore on the big screen.
