8 Reasons Why Spider-Man Joining The Avengers Is A Bad Idea (For Marvel)
8. It's Going To Be A Rushed First Appearance
According to the official statement, Spidey will first appear in an pre-existing MCU movie before having his Sony-released standalone in July 2017. Although the announcement is coy about what film he appears in, it has to be Captain America: Civil War, right? Think about it - Avengers: Age Of Ultron is pretty much in the can, same with Ant-Man, which leaves Civil War, Doctor Strange and Guardians Of The Galaxy 2. Marvel are all for gambles, but debuting their Peter Parker alongside Peter Quill would be too much. Which means the Marvel Spider-Man will be hitting cinema screens in little over a year. Now as this idea's been on the table for a while it's likely that the Russo brothers have worked out an alternate version of the script that works Spidey in, shocking identity reveal and all, but that's still a really quick turnaround for a character that hasn't been best served in recent years. Given that both entries in the now-defunct Amazing series were heavily hampered by being rushed (heck, Sam Raimi left his Spider-Man 4 because of the tight release date), Marvel giving themselves a year to go from page to box office is pretty risky.
