6. Toy Story 3 (2010) 11 Years
Arguably, Toy Story 3 is Pixar's greatest film yet. We followed Woody and the gang as they faced the concept of mortality, or at least a limit to their own "lifespan" as objects, and discovering a new purpose. Filled with so much character and emotion that hits right in the 'feels' button, TS3 was a great accomplishment for animation. Toy Story 2 was already 11 years old when the latest (and possibly final) installment came to theaters, so it was great to see Pixar age the story with the audience.
Was it worth it? I accidentally answered this one already. Pixar has had a shaky history with sequels. Cars 2 easily the worst of Pixar's collection, and Monster's University was just enough to get you into the theater. But Toy Story seems to be the golden egg. It may be that there is such a deep story to tell in the series. Granted Toy Story 2 was not as great as the first but Toy Story 3 was well worth the wait. And unlike most series that come back out of sheer clawing for profit, we expected and welcomed TS3 after so many years. The gap may have actually contributed to our satisfaction.
