In retrospect, the casting of Andy Serkis in the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII is fairly unsurprising. Yet the imagination runs wild with the possibilities of the man who brought Gollum, King Kong and Caesar to life being involved with what is possibly the best-loved film series of all time. Very little is known about the plot of Episode VII, much less what kind of characters the announced actors will be playing. One has to assume, despite his acting prowess even without digital post-production, that Serkis's performance will ultimately be that of an outlandish space creature. Will Serkis play an entirely new creature? A Wookie? A Dug? Maybe a Chewbacca sidekick analogue for a new Han Solo-type hero? As long as he's not playing a descendant of Jar-Jar Binks, we're up for almost anything J.J. Abrams has in mind for the legend that is Andy Serkis.
