3. Sarlacc - Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi
The Sarlacc is the disgusting pit-dwelling creature we encounter in the first section of Return of the Jedi. After capturing Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, we endure the frankly revolting sight of Jabba the Hut pulling Leia to his leathery, fatty folds. You think this is going to be the height of gross in this film, but no. Jabba flies Han, Luke and Leia out to the Great Pit of Carkoon where the Sarlacc resides. The fear factor of the Sarlacc is twofold. First, the pit. In order to even reach the Sarlacc, the hapless victim must fall down. You don't even need to fall straight in. A dry sandy slope ensures that anyone that tumbles off the ship has nothing to stop them making it all the way into the pit. Even if by some miracle they manage to arrest the slide down towards the tiers of curved teeth lining the top of the pit, there are tentacles waiting to whip out, grasp a leg and tug you in. Second, there is the knowledge that something truly dreadful awaits you when you plummet into the pit. In the remastered 2011 version, a beak protrudes from the pit, eating one individual before he even gets past the teeth. I consider that it's actually a bit scarier to leave it to the imagination. I personally envisage a stomach of bubbling acid. That might just be me though.
I'll watch anything, so long as it has a juicy plot, a couple of twists and hopefully a few scares. My favourite films include The Fugitive, The Last Starfighter and The Secret In Their Eyes. Television wise, I'm a big fan of the Nordic Noir, Sherlock and Doctor Who. All the classics!
