8 Sci-Fi Movie Remakes You Didn't Know Were In The Works
7. Starship Troopers
A remake of '90s cult classic Starship Troopers was announced late last year, much to the dismay of the original film's director, Paul Verhoeven.
The announcement came with the news that the remake's producers planned to draw more from the novel by Robert A. Heinlein than from Verhoeven's movie, to which the veteran director mentioned that the novel was "fascistic and militaristic" and would fit perfectly "in a Trump Presidency".
That's not exactly a ringing endorsement, is it?
Still, the remake is moving full steam ahead. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon (the writers behind the Zac Efron/Dwayne Johnson vehicle Baywatch) are penning the script, with Neal H. Moritz (the Fast and Furious franchise) and Toby Jaffe producing.
The novel (and movie) follows Johnny Rico, a respected officer in a war between humans and an alien species of bug-like creatures.
Verhoeven's movie was almost a satire, poking fun at militarism and the idea of a society ruled by elite armed forces, but if the remake is indeed set to focus less on that film, then it will probably end up being a straight-up sci-fi action movie.
