8 Sci-Fi Movies Built On A Lie

1. Alien 3

Built on a lie? Maybe. Marketed on a lie? Absolutely.

The production of David Fincher's Alien 3 is one of the most notoriously problematic in the history of modern-day science fiction cinema. Having a whole lot more downs than ups, the production saw changes consistently made to so many elements of the threequel throughout its development and even during shooting.

As for lying to the franchise's fanbase, that came when the promotional push for Alien 3 promised us the mouth-watering prospect of seeing the Xenemorphs arrive to cause chaos and carnage on Earth.

Straight from the early trailers for Alien 3, we had a booming narrator's voice tell us that:

In 1979, we discovered, in space, no one care hear you scream. In 1992, we will discover, on Earth, everyone can hear you scream.

The acid-blooded menace of the previous two Alien movies? Heading to Earth? That all sounds absolutely phenomenal, right? Yes, yes it does. Unfortunately, that was all a complete lie, with Alien 3 again taking place up in the stars - this time largely on the Fury 161 foundry.

Then again, when the Xenemorphs did land on Earth in Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, the less said about those crossover offerings the better.
