8 Spider-Man Movies That Almost Happened

6. Spider-Man 5 And 6

Spider-Man 4 didn't progress very far, but it did enter active development, which is more than we can say for its planned follow-ups.

Although Spidey 5 and 6 were no more than twinkles in the eye of Sony Pictures, the studio hired James Vanderbilt to draw up screenplays for these sequels.

At one stage it was suggested that chapters five and six would cap off a second Spider-Man trilogy and shoot back-to-back, providing the fourth instalment threw up the right numbers at the box office.

Little is known about where the Tobey Maguire series would have headed, but unused ideas that Sam Raimi has discussed could well have ended up on the roadmap.

For instance, the director had previously expressed interest in transforming Dylan Baker's version of Doctor Curt Connors into the Lizard and promoting Bruce Campbell from a cameo appearance to the role of the villainous Mysterio.

Vanderbilt went on to pen the screenplays for Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, so there's a chance he salvaged something from his Spidey 5 and 6 drafts. One of them featured the Lizard as its villain, after all.
