8 Stories To Read Before The Beginning Of DC’s Cinematic Universe

And no... they're not all about Batman.

During the past six year Marvel has become a cinematic powerhouse, dominating box offices year in and year out. And with still an eight months left before the highly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits theatres, DC has a lot of catching up to do if they expect to compete in what is quickly becoming a saturated market of comic book film franchises. Nevertheless, in December 2014 DC stepped up to the plate, announcing a six year plan to release a total of 10 films spinning out of Zack Snyder€™s Man Of Steel reboot, all of which will be set within a shared DC Cinematic Universe. Unlike Marvel, who sold some of the cinematic rights of their more lucrative and popular superhero franchises to various different studios, DC€™s parent company, Warner Bros, has access to their entire character line, which means that their filmmakers can use any incarnation of any character from their comic catalogue €“ a catalogue which dates back to 1939 with the first appearance of Superman. For those of you who enjoy reading source materials before seeing films, but don€™t want wade through over 75 years worth of comic books, here is a list of eight different titles that will prepare you for what€™s to come in the DC cinematic universe.
