What It Could Win: Best Visual Effects & Best Sound Editing. Whereas a lot of cinemagoers would appreciate franchises to not be milked for all its worth (Terminator & Die Hard series anyone?), Mission: Impossibles fifth outing Rogue Nation proves it a can be done and well. The latest instalment in the M:I series was another surprisingly good hit possibly their best to date and the special effects and sound editing could be acknowledged by the academy. If anything Tom Cruise's insane work he put into the film is proof Best Stuntwork should become a category (let's face it, not many actors would hang outside of a plane for their craft), but until then Best Visual Effects will have to do as the sequences created were utterly superb. Dark Horse Nominations: Best Film Editing The Academy does not like giving this award out to blockbusters, but Rogue Nation could well force itself into the mould and become the exception to the rule. The fact is all of Tom Cruises hard, yet crazy work would be all for nothing if there wasnt a good editor at the helm and Eddie Hamilton did a splendid job. The action sequences in Rogue Nation were wonderfully crafted together with the motorbike chase and plane sequence standing out as some of the best action sequences produced during the summer.
