8 Superhero Movie Tropes That Need To Die

8. Jokes Referring To Insurance Premiums

As seen in: The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age Of Ultron You know the scene: some big lump has just launched an attack on a major city, causing widespread devastation. Turning to a colleague, our hero or one of his associates chirps: €œGuess our insurance premiums just went up!€/€œMan, I€™m glad I€™m not writing their claims forms!€/€œI hope they€™ve got insurance!€ or some other variant. Oh, my aching sides. What probably needs to happen is the hiring of actual comedy writers to do the comedy bits. I€™m not saying it needs to turn into a two-and-a-half hour Saturday Night Live feature film, but comedy is much, much harder to write than seriousface sci-fi-fantasy pseudo-mystical nonsense which strings the plot together. All that said, there's a Damage Control TV show in the works which will essentially be one big insurance joke and which will hopefully negate this over-the-top usage; it's based on the comic series about a construction company which runs around clearing up the mess left behind by the Marvel heroes during their devil-may-care throwdowns.
