8 Things IT Chapter 2 Must Do To Succeed
6. Reduce The Amount Of CGI Used For Pennywise (Or Sharpen It Up)
If there's one problem with Chapter One's portrayal of Pennywise, it's the amount of noticeable and distracting CGI used in certain scenes - the projector scare or the final battle, for example.
While it couldn't be avoided in some scenes, it often made the demonic clown feel less tangible, more like a Scooby-Doo cartoon monster of the week than the symbol of pure terror that he should be.
This problem can be partly attributed to budget restraints (the movie had roughly $35 million to work with, which is scraps when compared to what huge blockbuster movies get), but it's also partly the fault of the filmmakers, who chose to go down this route when a completely practical Pennywise would've been far more menacing.
Chapter Two will undoubtedly get a larger budget, so if CGI is used, it will look better, but given how superb Bill Skarsgard was in the role - and how the non-CGI scenes were by far the scariest - it makes sense to reduce the need to tweak his performance in post-production.
