8 Things Prometheus 2 Must Do To Avoid Being Terrible

7. Give Us Characters We Care About

Sure, Elizabeth Shaw had some definition and the facts that her quest to discover humanity's collective meaning (and subsequently her entire perspective on life) was utterly quashed and her lover set aflame in front of her eyes engendered at least a little empathy from audiences, but Prometheus didn't give us very much reason to root for her success other than 'well, she's the protagonist'. Plus, Michael Fassbender's android David had more charisma than most of the ship's crew, so the first film ended up being something of a clinical, emotionless experience. Thankfully, only two members of the original cast will likely be returning for reasons that will be obvious to anyone who's actually seen the film. As the slate's now more or less clean, here's Scott's chance to not only imbue Shaw with some much-needed character and pathos but also include characters audiences can feel attached to so it's actually a loss when they die in one needlessly foolish way or another and that we're made to care about the things they're striving to achieve. Which, um, is what, exactly...?
