8 Things The Batman Sequels Need To Succeed

7. Batman Improving As A Crime Fighter

The Batman
Warner Bros.

The point of Matt Reeves' The Batman is that Batman is ineffective at his job. In the two years he is operating, the city's crime rate did not decrease. He keeps on fumbling in the investigation because no one can realistically be a detective god.

Let's run through his mistakes: Alfred almost died, he let The Riddler get away with his mission to kill the corrupt, he did not capture The Riddler, and by the end of the film, Gotham is worse off, literally underwater. It may be hard to miss, but despite the awesome intro where the bat-signal makes criminals around Gotham paranoid of Batman, the fear did not stop them from succeeding in their criminal activities.

Batman's decision to be a symbol of hope instead of vengeance is a reaction to his ineffectiveness. If he becomes more than just a dude who beats up the bad guys, maybe he can turn Gotham around. So, If Batman keeps on making the same mistakes he has been doing, then it would look like he is wrong - It does not matter if he is the symbol of hope, he needs to do better at doing his job.

Otherwise, he is just a guy doing a hobby every night, implementing zero change.
