8 Unforgettable Musical Interludes In Wes Anderson Films

5. "Powerman" (The Kinks) - The Darjeeling Limited

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtJ1gQEcCUA The film is the story of three estranged brothers, played by Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman and Adrien Brody, who reunite to take a trip around India, traveling on a train named The Darjeeling Limited. They have not seen each other since the funeral of their father, and their meeting for the first time since is awkward, contentious, and hilarious. One scene contains the line: "I love you, but I'm gonna mace you in the face!" Towards the film's conclusion, the brothers have visited their mother (Angelica Huston) and are rushing through the train station to catch the Darjeeling Limited once again. At this point they have bonded and decided to stay together, so when Owen Wilson says "Dad's bags aren't gonna make it!" we know they are jettisoning both the literal and emotional baggage brought on by their father's death. In one long, glorious slow-motion shot, just as the Kinks amps up and the vocals kick in, the three of them make a mad dash for the train, chucking their suitcases and letting them tumble as they climb aboard. This is one of the most exciting, epic moments in an Anderson film.
