8 Upcoming Movies Everybody Will Watch With Hidden Agendas

6. The Great Gatsby

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rARN6agiW7o What Is It? Velvet cushion-esque director Baz Lurhmann's long-awaited adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's great American novel, which also happens to be one of the best-loved written things of all time. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular character in a role that may or may not finally grant him his elusive Oscar, and with the old Spider-Man as his buddy Nick Caraway, The Great Gatsby is currently looking to be... uh, well, like Baz Lurhmann directed it. Why You'll Say You'll See It... "Well, it's an absolute classic, of course, and it'll be interesting to see what Lurhmann has done with the material. Let's hope he doesn't factor out any of the novel's key themes for the sake of some unnecessary spectacle, hm?" Why You Really Want To See It... To complain. To tell everybody how bad and ill-judged of an adaptation is was. Sure, it'd be great if it was any good, given that all the actors involved are the best of the best, but your real reason for paying to see this story you're already so familiar with is to point out what Lurhmann could have done "better," and how he failed to capture the "inherent spirit of the source material," 'cause that's the sort of thing people say nowadays. Probably.
