8 Upcoming Movies That Have Sparked Massive Controversy
4. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald
Release Date: 16 November 2018
The Controversy: This all centers on star Johnny Depp, who allegedly assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard.
Heard filed a restraining order against Depp in 2016, stating that he'd been verbally and physically abusive to her for the duration of their relationship. Later that year the pair were able to settle, releasing a joint statement that indicated the whole affair had ended amicably.
However, Heard's accusations against Depp (and leaked pictures of her looking battered and bruised) were enough to stir up a backlash against his appearance in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, where Depp will play Gellert Grindelwald.
Some fans have called for Depp to be removed from the film in light of the claims, while others have threatened to boycott it entirely.
Numerous people have voiced their support of Depp's inclusion in the film, such as director David Yates and writer J.K. Rowling, who said she's "genuinely happy" to have the actor on-board.
In the end, this has all been a large-scale game of "he said she said" with none of the allegations being confirmed or outright proven false. But it's important to remember that Depp's personal life isn't intrinsically linked to Fantastic Beasts 2, and there are still thousands of people who worked hard on the film that don't deserve to suffer for someone else's actions.
