8 Upcoming Movies That Will Be Nothing Like You're Expecting

7. Pacific Rim Uprising

The Incredibles
Universal Pictures

The Expectation: More slow, bulky Jaegers and the same grim tone as the first.

Why That's Not The Case: Though it was very entertaining and made a tidy amount of money internationally, Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim just didn't make the enormous splash the studio expected it to.

It's not clear why this was the case, though the lack of a real A-list star and the fact that Transformers practically owns the 'giant robots fighting' corner of the market can't have helped.

The movie had its problems, but one of those wasn't its look and style - in fact, that was the best part about it. The enormous, metallic Jaeger robots looked absolutely stunning in motion, and they moved in a way that felt clunky, yet immensely powerful.

So it's very surprising to learn that this is one aspect of the franchise that the upcoming sequel will change. The Jaegers seen in the first teaser trailer look much more sleek, nimble and shiny than the battle-worn, bulky machines found in the original movie, coming across more like giant Power Rangers than the cumbersome Jaegers we're used to.

That teaser trailer also seemed rather upbeat, with a much brighter colour scheme and more vibrant Jaeger design. The original Pacific Rim was pretty bleak, but these initial signs point to its sequel taking a warmer, glossier - and possibly - more broadly-appealing direction.
