8 Ways Star Wars Ruined Cinema

1. Completing Disney€™s Monopoly

May 2017 is going to be a massive month for cinema. Kicking off with Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, a sequel to the big hit of last summer, and ending with the release of Star Wars Episode VIII, the follow-on from what will undoubtably be one of the biggest movies ever made, it's the stuff of dreams for audiences. And, more importantly, for Disney. It's two years away and yet the 05/17 box office is already signed, sealed and delivered to the Mouse House - there's only a couple of release slots other distributors can go near (and to do so is fighting a losing battle). There was always a danger through their acquisition of Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar (and the resurrection of their own animation wing) that Disney would come to dominate the industry and, based on current release schedules, we'll be reaching that point sooner than later. You see, while May 2017 feels a date long in the future, there's already nothing we can really do to stop the progress; what are set to be the two biggest films of this year (Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens) are Disney financed production. Sure, you could not watch them, but do you really want to miss out on Hulkbuster and cross-guard lightsaber? Of course not. Did Star Wars ruin cinema? Or are the negatives worth it for all the good it did? Share you opinion down in the comments.
