8 Widespread Movie "Facts" That Are Totally Untrue

2. The Kids' Reactions To The Pirate Ship In The Goonies Was Real Because They Had Never Seen The Set Before

The Goonies Here's a "fact" that sounds really nice in theory, and to give it credit where credit is due, it's actually easy to understand why and how this one got all mixed up. According to the random guy who told you this story, during the climax of the classic kids' movie The Goonies, when the gang stumble upon the pirate ship, their reactions to seeing the set are real. Why? Because director Richard Donner purposely concealed it from them during construction, as he wanted to film their legitimate reactions on the day and use it in the movie. A nice idea, in theory. Most of that is actually true - Donner didn't show his cast the set on purpose for exactly that reason, though the rest of this "fact" usually states that the reactions in the final cut of the movie are the first ones that were filmed. Not so, sadly: when the cast where first shown the ship, they reacted a little more enthusiastically than Donner had planned - most of them cursed and swore, and thus their initial reactions were deemed unusable. So they had to shoot it again, this time without the profanity. Later, Corey Feldman would admit that he and another unnamed actor had seen the ship anyway, removing even more awesomeness from this little story. Thanks, Corey.
