See Him In: Attack the Block Look Out For Him In: The Circle Set to break out right at the end of 2015 with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Peckham-born, John Boyega, will start 2016 as one of the most talked about young actors alive. He's coveted the lead role in the biggest film of the decade, and thus, regardless really of his performance in the film, he has a head start on the rest of the pack. A charismatic performer with undeniable action-hero chops, Boyega is already a hulking presence at only 23, and the little we've seen of him so far suggests he's a dab hand at accents, too (consider his street-slang inflected dialect in Attack the Block in comparison with his general, Americanised one from The Force Awakens trailers). Best known for his performance as Moses in Joe Cornish's cult, aliens-on-a-council-estate British comedy, Attack the Block, Boyega will head into 2016 to star in James Ponsoldt's The Circle, an adaptation of the Dave Eggers novel which I'm convinced is going to be one of the surprise smash hits of the year. Starring alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson, the film will challenge Boyega to build on the clout he'll no doubt acquire with The Force Awakens, the actor tasked with featuring in a cerebral picture next to established heavyweights for a director schooled in independent films (The Spectacular Now, The End of the Tour). Add to that the fact that Boyega is slated to star in Episodes VIII (2017) and IX (2019) of Star Wars as well, and he could, much like Harrison Ford before him, become one of the most recognizable faces of the next half-decade (at least).
