9 Actors Who Played Other, Better Actors

6. Nicole Kidman As Grace Kelly

On paper, Nicole Kidman being cast as the elegant and ever-classy Grace Kelly (or in this case, Princess Grace of Monaco) seems foolproof. Not only does Kidman bare an uncanny resemblance to Kelly, but she's also shown audiences time and again that she can be every bit as charming. So€ what went wrong? The trouble with 2014's Grace of Monaco lies not so much in the casting, but in the story. The true story of Kelly's later life is interesting enough to have been a tremendous biopic, but Arash Amel's screenplay is about as historically accurate as Terminator 2, leaving the film floundering somewhere between a biographical account and a completely fictionalised fairytale. Looking beyond the questionable storyline, however, Kidman's performance does have a few shining moments. As she stated herself, she considered the role to be a character study, and she does an admirable job of giving the audience an insight into the depths of Kelly's character off-screen. Unfortunately, the performance only leaves us wondering what might have been if Kidman had been given a better script to work from.
