The role of 70s porn star Linda Lovelace (of Deep Throat fame) was initially to be played by Lindsay Lohan, but when she abandoned the biopic it was offered to her Mean Girls co-star Amanda Seyfried. Understandably, Seyfried was initially cautious, wary of the fact that it was the type of role that could potentially ruin a career. As feared, the film was a commercial failure, despite a stellar lead performance. Lovelace is portrayed as a very real, fragile and naive young girl. She's sexy, of course, but the sex takes a back seat to the tormented character. The role certainly hasn't ruined Seyfried's career either, and despite the lacklustre reviews for the film, her performance has been consistently praised. In regards to the nudity dotted throughout, she described the part as liberating. Irrelevant but also worth noting is that in the scenes of simulated oral sex, an ice lolly was used as a substitute for a penis. Definitely irrelevant, but notable.
