9 Actors You Had No Idea Almost Played James Bond

James Brolin - father of Josh Brolin and husband of Barbra Streisand - had been acting for over twenty years when the offer to play Bond came his way. At the time it appeared that Roger Moore was permanently leaving the role, and so producer Albert R. Broccoli began searching for a replacement.

Upon meeting Brolin, Broccoli was impressed, and after a series of screen tests he was practically a shoo in for the role. Brolin was so convinced of his success, in fact, that he began searching for a home in London.

In the end, however, it wasn't to be - Roger Moore renegotiated his contract and returned to the role of Bond (despite leaving for good just a few years later).

Interestingly, Brolin's screen tests were actually made available to the public as part of a documentary, and can easily be found online. They show Bond being strangled by an unknown assailant after he answers the phone, the two then engaging in brief fight.
