9 Awesome Movies That Were Shot In Secret
6. Before Midnight
When you think of movies being filmed in secret, you don't necessarily consider simple, low-budget dramas as requiring much in the way of covert production.
Still, perhaps in order to avoid the detrimental pressure of the Hollywood hype machine, the third entry into Richard Linklater's universally-acclaimed Before series was surreptitiously filmed over just 15 days in Greece in the summer of 2012.
Though Ethan Hawke hinted months prior that shooting might take place soon, his co-star Julie Delpy quickly denied it, and it was only when the pair were spotted in Greece during production that word got out about the movie.
Linklater officially confirmed the sequel in September of that year, complete with its title, before premiering Before Midnight to a glowing response at Sundance the next January.
The cloak-and-dagger approach made its sudden announcement and quick release a fun surprise for fans, and if a fourth film ever actually happens, you can pretty much expect Linklater to adopt the same strategy.
