9 Best Changes Stephen King Movies Made From The Books

8. Ellie's Discovery - Pet Sematary (2019)

Misery Not In The Book
Paramount Pictures

Pet Sematary is one of King's finest works, dealing intimately with the sensitive subjects of loss, grief and denial in the writer's trademarked fashion.

The novel has seen two adaptations, one back in 1989 and another in 2019, and each of them took a few creative liberties with the source material.

In the book (and the 1989 movie), elderly neighbour Jud Crandall introduces the Creed family to the titular cemetery, knowing that their curiosity will sooner or later take them up the path behind their old house. He warns them not to venture any further, hoping to ward them away from the magical burial site that has the power to raise the dead hiding a little further into the woods.

In the latest movie adaptation, however, it's the protagonist's daughter, Ellie, that discovers the "sematary" while exploring the area around her new home. It makes for a perfect moment of horror for fans of the book, numbly aware that a deviation from the source material opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the story that follows, keeping audiences on their toes.
