9 Big Questions After Comic-Con 2018

8. Why Is Titans Going Backward?

Regardless of the quality of the freshly premiered DC trailers such as Aquaman or Shazam!, they mark a distinct heel-turn for DC's cinematic ventures. Both trailers feature jokes, brighter colors, and lighter tones, clearly distancing themselves from the Snyder-aesthetic.

So then, why is it that the trailer released for Titans is so painfully forcing itself the other way?

Featuring dark subject matter and cinematography, as well as featuring an f-bomb dropping Robin, the trailer looks perfectly in-line with what Snyder was going for in films like Man of Steel and Batman V. Superman. The merit of this tone in and of itself is a whole other discussion, but of all the possible projects to keep dark and gritty, they chose the live-action Teen Titans?

This is the same property that is getting a Cartoon Network-produced animated children's film this weekend. Even the animated iteration before Teen Titans Go! explored darker themes but remained child-friendly for the most part.

So it's more than a bit odd to see their first-ever live-action adaption running so directly in the opposite way of the rest of DC's slate, especially given the property's history and primary audience.
