9 Bizarre Early Drafts That Nearly Destroyed Your Favourite Films

2. Star Wars Was About An Army Of Wookee Pilots

Imagine the scene. It's 1977 and you're sitting in the cinema waiting for a film to start; a strange film you've heard even stranger things about. At long last, the room darkens and the music begins. Yellow text begins to crawl up the screen: Until the recent GREAT REBELLION, the DAI NOGAS were the most feared warriors in the universe. For one hundred thousand years, generations of DAI perfected their art as the personal bodyguards of the King. They were the chief architects of the invincible ROYAL SPACE FORCE, which expanded the King's power across the galaxy, from the celestial equator to the farthest stars. This is part of the original opening crawl of €œThe Star Wars€, the first iteration of what would later become A New Hope. In €œThe Star Wars€, Annikin Starkiller along with brother Deak and father Kane travel to Aquilae to meet with General Luke Skywalker. After Aquilae is invaded by what essentially amounts to the Empire, Annikin and Luke eventually wind up on Yavin, home of the Wookees, where they meet Chewbacca. Chewbacca leads everyone to his tribe, and Luke begins training an army of Wookee fighter pilots to go and blow up the Empire's base. If that's not bizarre enough, consider the fact I'm leaving all of the mind-numbingly boring politics out of the synopsis, including Senate discussions, the Empire's attempt to research genetics and biology and Luke Skywalker hiding Leia's prince brothers in human fridges.
