9 Comedy Filmmakers Who Deserve More Awards Recognition

4. Ivan Reitman

Like John Landis, Ivan Reitman's career as a filmmaker hasn't been exclusively in comedy but it's how he built his reputation. Reitman directed popular comedies like Meatballs, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Twins, Ghostbusters II, Kindergarten Cop, and Dave after kicking off his career with Cannibal Girls, a horror comedy he wrote and directed. Reitman also produced other comedy favorites like Animal House, Private Parts, Road Trip, Old School, and EuroTrip. Few filmmakers of any genre can claim to have had a hand in creating so many classics. Like others on this list Reitman hasn't been as successful with some of his later efforts, including Junior, Fathers' Day, Evolution, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend. And when it comes to awards, Reitman has been just as unsuccessful as his peers. However, Ivan Reitman may take some comfort in the fact that his son Jason has already received far more awards and accolades than he ever has. In fact, Ivan Reitman's sole Oscar nomination came in 2010 for producing Jason's movie Up in the Air. Though Ivan Reitman hasn't produced Jason's other movies, he might consider doing it again to finally win some awards.
