9 Creators Who Regretted Killing Off Movie Characters

7. Barbara Broccoli Admitted Strawberry Fields Should've Survived - Quantum Of Solace

Few would profess to call Quantum of Solace one of the stronger Daniel Craig Bond movies, and that's in large part because its supporting roster of characters is, frankly, quite forgettable.

First off, villain Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric) is just a bit of a dull baddie, and then you've got more promising-yet-wasted characters like the preposterously-named MI6 agent Strawberry Fields (Gemma Arterton).

Fields shows up mid-way through the film to effectively babysit Bond (Craig) and ensure he heads back to the UK, but of course, 007 quickly seduces her and that plan goes out the window.

But soon enough Fields makes her exit when her body is discovered drowned in crude oil, in a smack-on-the-head homage to the similar scene from Goldfinger.

Many were left disappointed that a talented up-and-comer like Gemma Arterton was cast in a thankless nothing role like this, none more than Arterton herself, who revealed in 2012 that even Bond producer Barbara Broccoli admitted they made a mistake killing Fields:

"I just met Barbara Broccoli in the corridor and she said, 'I wish we hadn't killed you off.' It would have been so good to come back."

Instead, Arterton joins the long list of skilled actresses fobbed off with strangely insubstantial supporting roles in the Bond franchise.
