4. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Mary Jane Almost Appeared

It seems unthinkable now that they would’ve crammed another character into this film, considering how well-known Amazing Spidey 2 is now for an overabundance of characters. It wasn’t just any old character that was going to appear though, it was the ever-iconic, Mary Jane Watson.

Shaleine Woodley was cast in the role and filmed all of her scenes. The scenes weren’t huge and her part wasn’t going to be groundbreaking, but the goal was to lay some groundwork for her presence in the future.

With Gwen Stacey’s death happening at the end of the film, it would’ve felt a bit pre-emptive and calculated to start shoehorning MJ into the very same picture. A bit bad taste, maybe. I can’t speak for everyone but I certainly wouldn't feel inclined to warm up to MJ, had she swept into Peter’s life immediately following his girlfriend’s tragic death.

In the end, the decision to cut out MJ worked out for the best. Gwen’s death wasn’t sullied by a rival romance, the cast didn’t burst at its seams (close as it was) and we ended up getting our fill of MJ with the character’s next rebooted appearance.
