9 Directors Who Remade Their Own Movies

7. The Pang Brothers - Bangkok Dangerous (1999) / Bangkok Dangerous (2008)

Far different is this, Bangkok Dangerous, by Pang brothers, Danny and Oxide. Similar in title only, Nic Cage's production company acquired the rights to the massively successful original so that the I'll-star-in-anything madman could have a new action vehicle to run amok in. While not great in its own right, the '99 original at least has the promising concept of the hitman as deaf/mute, which makes for an intriguing, pretty-fresh idea right off. The Cage remake sacks that setup off, though, and, with Cage never likely to not have any dialogue (which would've been great to see and made for a much better film), the premise is passed onto Cage's love interest in a cheap diversion.
