9 Dumbest Weapons In Sci-Fi Movies

4. Heat Seeking Bullets (Runaway)

In the pantheon of things that sound good on paper, a heat seeking bullet would probably take a lot of the unnecessary casualties out of a gunfight. But when you think about the concept for more than a second, you realize that such an idea makes absolutely no sense, and would be more trouble - not to mention expense - than it's worth.

The film (very cleverly, to its credit) uses POV shots following the bullet as it tracks its target, to get around the obvious budget limitations of making a bullet that can turn corners on a dime look convincing. The biggest and most obvious problem with this idea is figuring out how a bullet can maneuver, say, a hallway with multiple turns. The whole appeal of a bullet is its speed, which is a little too fast for tight turning. Especially not the dogged chasing we see the bullets perform in the movie.

The only solution to this is to make sure every single bullet is a tiny missile with its own propulsion system. Which would be a little difficult for a tiny little bullet.
