9 Most Evil Film Directors

9. Gaspar Noé

Gasper Noe Brilliant but evil director who uses subversion and acts of extreme violence to woo us into watching his skewed films. Technically a superb nd inventive director - just look at the way he manages to bring to life the seedy underbelly of French homosexual nightlife in Irreversible and how he almost makes us feel sorry for a misanthropic horse meat butcher who molests his autistic daughter in Seul Contre Tous (I Stand Alone). In that film, Noé bombards us with a tale of hard luck from the Butcher, he excoriates everything and everyone to the highest heavens, but if you are a cynic, a lot of what you hear from him will resonate with you and you will see life through his eyes. Paedophilia and incest are never forgiveable, but you can get a sense of the Butcher's dilemma at the end of the film. Enter the Void was always Noé's pet project. It is less offensive than his previous films but it dares to be bold and brave - particularly when it comes to the visuals of the film. With his storyline of death seeking reincarnation and psychedelic camera work, the like of which you have never seen, Noé stays true to his artistic vision. You may like it, you may hate it but you will remember Noé's work of colossal self indulgence. Not so much evil for Enter the Void, Noé nevertheless bombards us with bile filled rhetoric in Seul Contre Tous and treats us to ultra violence and sleaziness in Irreversible. Two immensely evil head messing films.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
