9 Fantastic Movies Too Devastating To Watch More Than Once

6. Hotel Rwanda

Requiem For A Dream
Lionsgate

The real life Rwandan Genocide of 1994 is depicted in harrowing detail, while shining a penetrating spotlight onto the political corruption that was rampant during the time.

Although the plot is ostensibly about a hotelier's quest to save as many refugees as he can, on a deeper level, Hotel Rwanda is actually about making damn sure you never ever forget that the world, even in this modern age, is full of terrible people who are willing to do terrible things to other human beings.

There are about a dozen different scenes that will leave your stomach feeling ill, but none more than the barbaric slaughter of a group of Tutsi women. And most horrifyingly, these scenes weren't exaggerated for the film. In fact, most of them were significantly toned down.

You'll no doubt find yourself clinging to the film's epilogue, which explains that Paul Rusesabagina had managed to save the lives of nearly 1,300 refugees. But just like Liam Neeson at the end of Schindler's List, it's likely you'll have too hard of a time forgetting all of those that couldn't be saved.

Because nearly a million people died.
