9 Films That Completely Ignored Their Source (And Sucked Because Of It)

2. Catwoman Got So Confused In Production

Some superheroes are just never meant to work as protagonists in their own film. Hulk never convinced before The Avengers and the two Wolverine films have turned the X-Men€™s biggest asset into a major bore. But they€™re nothing next to Catwoman. Both Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway€™s Selina Kyles defined their respective eras of Batman, turning what could be a naff villain into a seductive, strong hero who defies gender stereotypes in a non-pandering way. But in between Batman Returns and The Dark Knight Rises came the standalone Catwoman, with Halle Berry as the feline hero battling evil cosmetic industries after being saved by an Egyptian God. Now that€™s a naff villain. There are many things wrong with the film and it€™d be incredibly close minded to say ignoring the material was the sole reason for the film sweeping the Razzies, but it had a major part in the plot developing. Initially intended to be a way for Pfeiffer to reprise the role, who after the umpteenth attempt to push it through pre-production gave up, it was subsequently deemed necessary to distance the film from what had come before. It was a bizarre situation; the film was only proposed because of Pfeiffer, but then it tried so hard to distance itself from her. This is something the pretentiously named director Pitaf, formally a special effects supervisor, took to heart, choosing to ignore the comics as well.
