9 Films That Would Benefit From Being Remade

Hal Needham’s movie is an 80s action flick to the core, a good ol’ boy’s reaction to the Iranian Hostage Crisis in which (to paraphrase Sylvester Stallone), America gets to win this time. In a fictional country somewhere in the Middle East, an Evil Dictator has illegally crossed borders and started blowing stuff up, and there’s only one group that can stop him.

Enter Megaforce, a top secret elite squad who because this is the 1980s all wear headbands and gold jumpsuits. When they set off to fight for truth, justice and the American way, their adventures have all the scope and excitement of a Hoff-era episode of Knight Rider, making you wonder where the $20 million budget went.

Tweak the material, excise the Rambo-esque politics and you’ve got an action movie that can compete against Jason Bourne in the modern marketplace far better than the likes of, say, Hitman: Agent 47 did. If The Magnificent Seven can get a slam-bang reboot starring Cam Gigandet, such ideas should not be scoffed at.
