9 Forgotten '80s Movies That You've Probably Never Heard Of

1. Razorback (1984)

Razorback1 I honestly don't know if this was even released outside of Australia, but for a long time back in the day and alongside Mad Max 2, this was essential viewing for all Australians, especially us kids living in the Outback, where it is based. And I find it extremely sad that this little marvel of Ozploitation cinema has lost most of its iconic status within the very country where it was created. Any time I try to discuss this film with a fellow Australian under the age of 25 I am greeted by blank stares that I feel the need to punch, simply because I can't class anyone in this country an honest to God Australian until they have at least seen this once (and they have to own Mad Max regardless). The basic synopsis is that a giant, over sized "Razorback" (or wild boar) terrorises a small community in Outback Australia. A simple basic plot that is reminiscent of Steven Kings "Cujo," but has all the more affect thanks to my own personal experiences with wild bush pigs. Directed by Russell Mulcahy who went on to make "Highlander," it is an essential part of Australian movie culture which has nearly all but been forgotten by the very same people that should be keeping it alive.
Much better than most other films released in the same era under the same premise, "Razorback" holds a very special place in my heart and if I can do my part so that this classic Australian horror film can be revisited by the masses of my beloved country, then damn it I am going to be a walking advertisement for this "Ozploitation" masterpiece until I draw my last breathe. You can count on that. So if you are lover of films and wish to see something that you may not have even heard of, I suggest you take this list to heart, cook up some good ol' microwave popcorn and brace yourself for a rather unique movie marathon experience. Considering you all seem to like wasting your money on garbage from Michael Bay or Adam Sandler, I think this would be not only far better value for your money, but a chance for a lot of you to revisit a time when moviemaking was an art form, not a desperate cash grab from artistically corrupt corporate conglomerates. Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
