9 Forgotten Film Gems You Must See Before You Die

5. The Missouri Breaks (1976)

Missouri BreaksDirector: Arthur Penn Cast: Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando, Randy Quaid & Harry Dean Stanton Plot: Tom Logan (Jack Nicholson) is the leader of a gang of horse rustlers who clash with rancher David Braxton (John McLiam) over stolen horses and his daughter. Braxton hires infamous regulator, Robert E. Lee Clayton (Marlon Brando), to hunt down and kill the horse thieves one at a time€ Reason(s) To Watch Before You Die: On paper this film sounds like it should€™ve been a huge hit due to the cast involved and the release date (It was Nicholson€™s first film since One Flew Over The Cuckoo€™s Nest and Brando€™s first since The Godfather) but it flopped€spectacularly. Put simply, it was too bat-sh*t crazy for audiences back in €™76 mainly down to Brando€™s take on his character. Firstly there is his accent; It starts as Irish and ends as something else entirely. He also wears numerous nonsensical disguises including women€™s clothes, he brandishes a weapon he made up himself on set and at one point he serenades his horse. Almost forty years ago all that made audiences stay away but with so many WTF moments, forty years later, all that make this a film you must see before you die.
