9 Genuinely Subtle Ways Movies Planned For The Sequel In Advance
6. Denny Shields' Cameo - Ocean's Eleven
Late, great Hollywood producer Jerry Weintraub had a cameo role in the 2001 remake of Ocean's Eleven which he himself produced, and at first glance, it seemed like nothing more than a vanity role.
Weintraub plays a talkative American businessman named Denny Shields, who is briefly seen speaking with Saul Bloom (Carl Reiner) at a high rollers' table, advising him that his mark Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) doesn't take prisoners.
But this wasn't a mere one-off for Weintraub, and his chatty appearance in Ocean's Eleven actually sets up his brief-but-pivotal reappearance in Ocean's Twelve.
In the sequel, Shields sets the plot in motion when he brags about the first film's heist to master thief Gaspar LeMarc (Albert Finney), which is overheard by LeMarc's protege François Toulour aka the Night Fox (Vincent Cassel), who then challenges Danny Ocean (George Clooney) to a "steal-off."
His penchant for jabbering, as established in the first film, is the whole reason Ocean's Twelve even happened in the first place. And better still, he makes another brief appearance as Shields in Ocean's Thirteen, where his name is finally spoken aloud.
