9 Heroic Cats That Saved The Day In Horror Movies
3. Tabitha - The Shadow Of The Cat (1961)
Another film with a rich old lady and a vengeful feline. Ella Venable is wealthy beyond any measure, which is why she becomes the target of her husband, the butler and the maid. No mystery here: they're all guilty. They kill Ella and bury her body on the grounds of the estate, only to realize that kitty Tabitha witnessed the entire slaughter. Not just that, but she also seemed to understand what happened to her owner and is now out for bloody revenge.
The interesting thing about this film, particularly when comparing it to entry #6, is the fascinating evolution of the murder-mystery setting, as well as the use of the cat as a symbol that invokes immediate fear in the hearts of the evildoers. A brave detective and a sharp journalist later come to the old woman's house to solve her baffling disappearance.
The friendly facade of the killers slowly cracks away as the case is about to be solved. Tabitha bursts into action and takes out the heartless gang of criminals. One by one, slow and steady. It begins simple enough, but the deaths become more elaborate as the film reaches its satisfying conclusion.
